SSRAA RFP Port Asumcion
Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association, (SSRAA), is soliciting bids from interested parties to conduct rearing operations for the spring of 2018 at its Port Asumcion rearing site. This is a new project that will become operational in late January or early February of 2018. The site will be comprised of five 40’X40’ net pens and a 24’X50’ barge for fish food and equipment storage. The barge will have a structure utilized for dry storage and temporary quarters for visiting SSRAA employees whom will be conducting periodic site visits. Approximately eight (8) million chum fry and 400,000 coho smolt will be reared and released in 2018. UFA Hires Frances Leach as Executive Director
United Fishermen of Alaska (UFA), Alaska’s statewide commercial fishing trade association, is pleased to announce the hiring of Frances Leach as its Executive Director effective January 5, 2018. Ms. Leach, a Juneau resident, was raised in a commercial fishing family in Ketchikan. “I am excited for the opportunity to represent UFA. Having grown up in a commercial fishing family in a coastal community, I understand the importance of commercial fishing to Alaska’s economy and cultural heritage. Regional Planning Team, Purse Seine, And Drift Gillnet Task Force Meetings
The department holds annual meetings each year between fishery managers, researchers, aquaculture organizations, fishermen, gear group organizations, processing company representatives, and interested organizations to review the previous salmon season, to discuss topics of importance for management of the fisheries, and to plan for the following season. At the request of participants, task force meetings are held in conjunction with the Southeast Regional Planning Team (RPT) fall meeting. This year both task force meetings and the RPT meeting will be held in Ketchikan at the Ted Ferry Civic Center, Neets Bay Room, located at 888 Venetia Avenue. Kidde brand Fire Extinguisher Recall
Several models of Kidde brand fire extinguishers with plastic handles and push button handles have been recalled including over 40 million extinguishers and 134 different models manufactured between January 1, 1973 and August 15, 2017. The recalled extinguishers are red, white, or silver canisters and rated as either ABC or BC. If you think your fire extinguishers may be recalled, please call (855)271-0773 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST Monday-Friday. If your extinguishers are recalled, Kidde will ship you replacements.
