Here are some important dates coming up:
On Monday, May 15th from 4pm-5pm Markos Scheer will be holding a Question and Answers session on Mariculture for Fishermen and Processors at the Assembly Chambers. The meeting will cover opportunities in seaweed mariculture and ways to market the product.
AMSEA is conducting a Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor course in Wrangell May 15th and 16th at the Wrangell Fire Department. Register at www.amsea.org or by calling (907)747-3287.
Dockside examiners will be in Petersburg Tuesday, May 16th through Friday, May 19th. You can sign-up for exams at the Harbor Masters office.
The Board of Fish will be holding a special meeting from May 17-18th to review the Bering Sea Tanner Crab Harvest Strategy. At the beginning of this meeting, they will also consider an emergency petition from the Fairbanks Fish and Game Advisory Committee with several measures to restrict the commercial fisheries to protect chinook salmon in the Copper River district of Prince William Sound. If the escapement goal for chinook salmon is not met in 2017, these salmon would become a Stock of Concern. Written comments can be submitted until 5pm on Friday, May 12y:
